My love for growing things began during a carefree childhood spent playing outdoors until dusk settled over hot summer days. We lived in a small town in an average house, but for me it was perfect: our big backyard contained nothing less than the tallest tree in the neighborhood as well as a hillside of rambling raspberries, fragrant honeysuckle, and neat beds of annuals. Some of my best memories are of working in the yard with my parents; learning how to tap a new plant out of its plastic pot, and eating trawberries straight from the garden.
As an adult I enjoy the luxury of flowers from countless local nurseries, frequent farmer’s markets, and the rich beauty of the central coast. Santa Barbara is a unique paradise for a wedding or special celebration, and as a designer I am constantly overwhelmed and inspired by my city. I am often asked about my'personal style' and the best I can offer is this: I love color, unusual textures, and elements used abundantly and naturally. I try to avoid confining myself to a particular genre and the process is rewarding for both designer and client: original designs crafted for one night and the couple they represent.
I chose the name Modern Day Design to emphasize a new approach to design for the modern client. The result is personalized, gorgeous, and unlike any you have seen before
Daniel and I just wanted to tell you how much we appreciated the fabulous job you did with the flowers at our wedding. Absolutely everything was as I envisioned, except 10 times better! We received so many comments about the amazing centerpieces—they were the first thing the guests grabbed as they left. My bouquet was perfect as were the nosegays and bridesmaids bouquets. I loved the altar with its breezy fabric, all the fruit you used at the tables, and the way you decorated our chairs. I always felt that the flowers would be the heart of our ceremony—what conveyed the tropical and warm feeling I was shooting for. And your work did exactly that! I can’t thank you enough…

After trading emails and phone calls over the past few months, we knew we would be happy with your creative interpretation of our loose citrus theme; through meeting you alone you convinced me that I liked flowers a lot more than I thought! Walking into the Historical Museum on the day of our wedding, we were thrilled beyond our expectations. Thank you for making everything from the boutonnieres to the buffet table decorations beautiful, classy, and fun. We’re lucky we managed to claim a centerpiece for ourselves!

The flowers for my wedding were just beautiful! I didn’t even notice we didn’t have peonies. When I saw everything set up for the ceremony and reception it just took my breath away.
